| Oakley 4th CAT Road Race Report |
Just under 50 riders competed in the race which was a 4 lap course, with a prime on the second lap with a prize of £10.00. I put myself near the front for the first lap just to cover any breaks, but nothing happened. A strong head wind greeted us just after the start as we headed to Worminghall, so the pace was not to high, but it picked up when the wind was behind us.
On the second lap the pace increased further as riders battled to reach the front in order to be in contention to compete for the prime. I went over the prime with the front of the bunch, without contesting the prize, but this was enough to split the peleton.
I found myself in a break and off the front for the 3 rd lap taking on some of the work, a few of us were trying to make a decent gap on the peleton, but to no avail.
Back together in the bunch for the fourth lap and the pace went up another notch. I made sure that on the final sharp bend I was on the front. This ensured that I would not be dropped from the back as the paced quickened towards the finish line. With ½ mile to go I was in 3rd place and following someone who had decided to make a dash for the line. I passed this rider with about 200 metres to go and was now flat out. I just couldn't make it and was passed by a number of riders just before the finish line. I finished 7th and gain my first Cat points (3). I was pleased with my efforts and am looking forward to my next venture!
