| Notes |
| |
| Route is based on the CTC routes i.e. B&B route from Lands End to
Blackburn, then its YHA route except for detour |
| to Arran to go round Glasgow |
| |
| Route was designed so that whole event can be done in no more than 10
days off work and would be at least 1000 miles. |
| |
| Day 1 is an early start from Swindon, then 1/2 a days cycling |
| |
| Day 13 is also only a 1/2 day cycling to allow time to travel from JOG
to Inverness. There are various options i.e. cycle |
| to Wick then train to Inverness or if there are enough cyclists a
minibus from JOG to Inverness. |
| |
| So most of the cycling is done over 11 days averaging 87 miles a day |
| |
| Route is scenic rather than direct so is mainly minor roads except where
no option but to go on A roads. It also means |
| more hills. However some days the route is flat e.g. day 6. Hardest day
is day 10 as 102 miles and hilly. |
| |
| Overnight accommodation will be budget B&B or YHA. |
| |
| Even with planned daily mileage, this isn't intended to a race and we're
expecting to average 12/13 mph. |
| |
| GPS will be used to navigate but we will have back up maps and detailed
directions. |
| |
| Hoping to get bikes packaged up by bike shop in Inverness then couriered
home. |
